Johns Manville Announces Expanded Mineral Wool Availability in Canada

Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and leading building products manufacturer, has added commercial and residential mineral wool to its full spectrum of insulation products, giving Canadian customers more options, security and flexibility when sourcing mineral wool to meet project demands.

JM mineral wool insulation offers a variety of performance benefits in both commercial and residential construction. With a high melting point in excess of 1093˚C, mineral wool can help delay fire spread, create quieter buildings and homes, increase privacy between rooms and reduce heating and cooling costs by keeping structures warm in winter and cool in summer.

“Mineral wool has long been a favorite product of Canadian building professionals, but there’s no longer just one game in town,” said Fred Stephan, senior vice president of Insulation Systems at Johns Manville. “With JM mineral wool, building occupants benefit from acoustically superior environments, moisture protection and increased fire performance while contractors benefit from JM’s laser-like focus on customer service and range of product offerings, providing more options and resources across all insulation categories.”

JM mineral wool is made from inorganic fibres using an advanced manufacturing process that ensures a high-fibre density and a low amount of shot material, resulting in consistent product quality and excellent performance. Dense and durable, the products can be easily and accurately cut and are available in a range of thicknesses and sizes. JM is the only manufacturer to offer compression packaging for mineral wool products for efficient storage and transport, allowing for 2497 square metres of product to be transferred in a single truckload, 603 square metres more than other manufacturers. JM also offers mixed truckloads of product, so customers can get a range of products that meets the needs or specific code requirements of any project.

JM’s line of mineral wool products include:

  • TempControl™ Batts and Sound & Fire Block™ Batts, both lightweight, noncombustible and contribute to high fire-resistance ratings in wood-stud cavities. TempControl batts are available in R-15 and R-23 for exterior walls. Sound & Fire Block batts deliver excellent acoustical performance for interior walls.
  • MinWool® Sound Attenuation Fire Batts (SAFB), ideal for noise control in metal stud wall cavities of interior partitions, floor cavities and above suspended ceiling systems, improving wall assembly Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings by up to an entire decibel level or 10dB.
  • MinWool® Safing, creates a fire-rated seal when installed between the spandrel panel and floor slab in commercial curtainwall systems, and prevents flame and smoke from passing through openings that penetrate fire-rated assemblies.
  • MinWool® Curtainwall, which provides fire resistance and thermal properties in glass, metal and masonry curtainwall spandrel systems and can be placed between or over framing members.

Residential and commercial mineral wool products are immediately available to Canadian customers in Ontario and Quebec. To learn more, visit www.jm.com or talk to your product manager.
