(PRBuzz.com) March 8, 2012 -- The Alexis Pilkington Memorial Scholarship has been developed in memory of "LEXI", a 2010 graduate of West Islip High School.  Lexi was a 17 year old, outgoing, All-County athlete who was a best friend to many and liked by all.  She tragically took her own life on March 21st, 2010.  In honor of Lexi's life and in hope that her death will not have been in vain, three scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors.  Our hope is that Lexi's Scholarship will continue to raise awareness around teen suicide prevention.  If we can save one life, it's worth the effort.

Details:

The Alexis Pilkington Memorial Scholarship has been developed in memory of Lexi, a 2010 graduate of West Islip High School.  The scholarship will be awarded to three graduating college bound seniors.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

v    In need of financial assistance.

v    C average or better.

v    Completed at least 50 hours of Community Service.

Applicants must write an essay of no more than 1 page which describes how today's teenagers can improve their social skills.  Essays may address topics such as, but not limited to:

v    Text messaging

v    Facebook

v    Formspring

v    Verbal communication

v    Parent-child communication

v    High School sportsmanship

Application packets must be submitted to the Counseling Office or mailed to PO Box 407, West Islip NY 11795 by Tuesday May 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
