Vernon, Jun 20, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - MANAGING EMOTIONS LECTURE ATTRACTS 400 ATTENDEES AT SCHUBERT CENTRE IN VERNON BC. SEATON SCHOOL AND FULTON SCHOOL EVENTS ALSO WELL ATTENDED BY STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

[Vernon, British Columbia, Thursday, June 20, 2019] Lecture on Managing Emotions looks at the root of negative emotions. To help the Vernon community to look at the purpose of happiness in a different way. It is" YOU" that is your own God and through the power of the mind that you control your destiny - every thought counts, and it comes from within - blaming objects like social media, intoxication, and drugs is not the answer - you must control your thoughts, and you have the power to do this yourself.

The lecture was an enormous success as the Venerable Guan Cheng spoke about managing emotions as a way to our ultimate goal of happiness.

Effectively this was a "town hall meeting " about happiness and how you can achieve nirvana and enlightenment on your own.

" In the wake of several suicides in the Vernon area, not to mention the ongoing issue of suffering that we see every day amongst teens and adults - what does our community do? Another town hall meeting on crime, drug use, and vagrancy? This makes no sense to me.
Very few people - including the media at times, look at the ROOT of the problem.

This lecture looks at the root of the problem. This is not nearly as popular - as you must look at yourself and how you are living your life and what you are doing. You can not blame the objects of desire - you must blame yourself. You need to manage your thoughts carefully and live your life in a way that avoids negative emotions. We all have the same tongue to speak - but how do we use it? "

Dahl, a father who recently lost his daughter Emily Dahl to suicide, further stated:

" We all have to realize that it is craving that is the source of human suffering; the misery of the those ruled by drugs, for example, is just an extreme form of the attachment to material things that compromises any persons happiness.

My goal is to fulfill the wishes of my daughter - and my daughter Emily was a wonderful person who was seeking happiness. What prevented her from achieving this, and what was causing her to suffer?

The point of the lecture was to stress that we must create the environment in which children will have the opportunity to develop themselves, and young people should be taught in such a way their brains can achieve their full capacities. The environment should also install a sense of purpose and connectedness, rather than such a focus on materialistic values that, Dahl says, cannot produce happiness. We must bring to children and parents a sense of wonderment about the world, rather than so much negativity, and more simplicity to our lives.

The message from the Venerable Guan Cheng is both powerful and unique in its approach to dealing with the real problems they encountered every day in Vernon.

Buddhism can help best to prevent drug abuse, both through training the brain to balance emotions and self-restraint (for instance, through mediation ) and through promoting education and working to create a less materialistic society. Are you living a purposeful life that will prevent substance abuse? Is this not the first question? Is this not that path to happiness, and if this is the focus, will suffer not be reduced? Should parents blame the system and the various objects of desire that are causing our children to suffer and is it not the parents that are in many ways living this way creating the very system that causes our children to suffer?
Stated Sherman Dahl

The entire two-day event in Vernon, which included heartwarming visits to both Seaton School and Fulton School touched around 1000 other human beings is the Wonderful planet of 7 Billion.

Tom Watkinson and Sherman Dahl - event organizers, stated - "this is only the beginning of much more that can be done - Imagine the possibilities! We intend to be like the new "beyond burger." Our goal is to make a difference. There is an ocean of possibilities and learning to be done, and we have just taken a cupful. Watch for our new organization "Imagine Okanagan" where we will be dedicating our lives to happiness through teachings and traditions that make sense.

Quotes From The People of Vernon Who Attended the Lecture
" What an incredible day and evening with the Venerable Guan Cheng and his group from Vancouver. To be in the company of individuals, 100 percent committed to compassion and happiness every day.
Managing emotions is all about using the power of your mind, But you need to be aware, and you need to practice - you will be rewarded with happiness for yourself and others as long as you do the work - we work on many things like sports and entertainment but how much time do you spend controlling your mind and your emotions? Developing good karma is essential to your present life and your future life. - is it not this way?" - Sherman Dahl. Vernon B.C.

Thank you, Katie, for connecting me with the "talk" tonight. I will be using these methods personally and with my family. My research is just beginning. Have a good night! - Sam. Vernon B.C.

I enjoyed it Katy a lot of it I've read about in books such as the four truths and the like but seeing him go into detail about thoughts becoming actions becoming habits becoming lifestyles is something I wish everyone could hear. The whole negative thoughts causing mental disorders was a total eye-opener too. Thank you so much for it, by the way, I'll find a way to repay you - Brenda. Vernon B.C.
