Local Corporation (NASDAQ: LOCM), a leading online local media company, today announced the beta release of its Spreebird Rewards program, in conjunction with its award-winning Spreebird Deals.
Spreebird Rewards is free to consumers and is designed to provide participating local merchants with more loyal customers, and greater customer insights. Like Spreebird Deals, Spreebird Rewards also provides funding for local schools and charities through Spreebird’s Community Rewards program.
Spreebird Rewards customers earn rewards every time they shop at participating merchants. Merchants simply swipe the customer’s Spreebird Rewards card on their existing POS terminal, or enter the phone number connected to the customer’s Spreebird Rewards account. Rewards points may be subsequently redeemed for Spreebird Deals, with additional redemption options planned.
The Spreebird Rewards program is designed to provide merchants with more revenue, as a merchant's customers will typically visit more frequently and spend more money under a rewards program. In addition, merchants will get significantly more empirical data on who their customers are plus when, where and how much they are spending – all information they need to manage and optimize their business, including how much they spend on marketing and where.

Through its Community Rewards program, Spreebird gives back 10 percent of its deal profits to the school or charity selected by a consumer every time they buy. To date, Spreebird has donated more than $700,000, supporting everything from copy paper and school supplies to sports and after-school programs.
The Spreebird Rewards program is currently being offered in select markets with expansion plans during the year. The company is also planning to roll out a white label version of the program as part of its existing Business Solutions for SMBs later this year.
