BASKING RIDGE, N.J., June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless has once again been honored as a recipient of the annual CIO 100 award, presented by IDG's CIO magazine. The annual CIO 100 program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).
Verizon Wireless was selected to receive a 2012 CIO 100 award for the creation of a streamlined Iconic Sales Portal that was developed for use at its company-owned stores, self-service point-of-sale channels, business and telesales channels, as well as external authorized agents for launches of high-demand consumer devices and accessories. The portal enables processing of high-volume consumer demand during the launches of eagerly anticipated devices across all sales channels, reducing the time it takes to complete purchases at all touch points through a simple user interface.
"Through innovative technology leadership, Verizon Wireless strives to enhance the customer experience every step of the way – from research, to point-of-sale, to customer support," said Shankar Arumugavelu, chief information officer of Verizon Wireless. "The CIO 100 award is just another example of how Verizon Wireless is pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology across the company through our commitment to putting our customers first."
Verizon Wireless most recently received a CIO 100 award in 2010 for its creation of an innovative and unique sales software system called SHOPP (Streamlined Hybrid Order Processing Path). The 2012 CIO 100 awards will be presented at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., on Aug. 21.
"For 25 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine and events. "Our 2012 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage."
