Sara Jacobs Endorsed by NOW for California 49th District Congressional Race

The National Organization for Women has endorsed candidate Sara Jacobs in the highly contested 49th Congressional race in California. Candidates are seeking to fill the seat currently held by Rep. Darrell Issa (R) who has stated that he will not be seeking re-election.

Born in Del Mar, Jacobs grew up in California’s 49th Congressional District, attending Del Mar public schools, and graduated from Torrey Pines High School. Jacobs holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations and a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University and is running for Congress to “bring a fresh approach to government, and close the opportunity gaps that exist in Southern California and across our nation.”

The organization has been visibly active in a number of close statewide, federal and local races and leverages the engagement of thousands of members to assist endorsed candidates. They support candidates who are committed to implementing an intersectional gender equity lens during their time in office on issues including human rights, reproductive justice, access to health care, fair and equal pay, and the representation of women in government.

California NOW President Kolieka Seigle issued the following statement regarding the endorsement: “We are living in a time that really matters, so what each of us decides to do during this critical time matters. Our children will ask us what we did to stand up for women’s equality, for justice, for protecting this democratic republic, all of which are under daily assault. This race is too important, the stakes are too high, we need to vote for the best candidate that represents all of our values. That candidate is Sara Jacobs.”

Sara Jacobs says that the most important issues in California 49 are affordable housing, health care, good public schools and closing the opportunity gap. Since the district includes Camp Pendleton, the largest Marine base in the world, she is also focused on helping military families.

Jacobs and the other challengers for Issa’s seat will face off in the nonpartisan primary on June 5th. To learn more visit https://sarajacobsforca.com.
