Award honors Slow Clap for ethical business practices and commitment to diversity and inclusion
SAN FRANCISCO - June 20, 2018 - PRLog -- Slow Clap Productions was presented with a Better Business Bureau (BBB) Torch Award for Ethics during an award ceremony at the company's office on Friday, June 15, 2018. The Torch Awards honor companies whose leaders demonstrate a high level of personal character and dedication to ensuring their organization's business practices meet the highest standards of ethics and generate community trust.

"One of the main reasons I started a video production business was to tell stories and highlight voices and communities that might not otherwise be heard," said Daniel Lichtenberg, CEO, Slow Clap Productions. "Along my journey as a business owner, I realized it's not just about creating great work, it's about the people you work with too. It's about providing opportunities and building a community of people who share a vision and can execute it."

The Torch Awards were created to recognize businesses that go above and beyond in their dealings with customers, their employees, vendors and the community.Out of the thousands of BBB accredited businesses in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern Coastal California, Slow Clap applied in the small business category and was selected by the Golden Gate BBB for its commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment and partnering with mission-based organizations that provide services and programs to under-resourced communities.

"Slow Clap is more than just a team of filmmakers, they are advocates for our work," said Paul Ocampo, Director of Development, Advancing Justice - Asian Law Caucus, a nonprofit providing legal services to low-income Asian Pacific Islanders. "Over the years, Slow Clap has helped us pinpoint the heart of our work and share it through storytelling. We trust the company to not only produce high-quality, poignant videos but to authentically capture our clients' voices while understanding the delicate nature of working with communities facing civil rights injustices."

According to a recent study by the University of Southern California's Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, only 3.4% of film directors are women and only 7% of films have casts that reflect the various races and ethnicities of people in the United States. Slow Clap is dedicated to being a part of the solution to the inclusion problem in the film industry by recruiting from a diverse pool of candidates. The company recruits from the Bayview-Hunters Point Center for Arts and Technology (BAYCAT), a non-profit providing video production training to youth of color and young women.

"A lot of business awards tend to focus solely on products or aesthetics as opposed to the Torch Award which recognizes organizations for their teams and work environment," said Melissa Perez, Associate Producer, Slow Clap Productions and graduate of the BAYCAT Academy. "Our company is always working hard. We are always striving to be better for ourselves and for our clients so it's an honor to receive such a prestigious award."

As a local 2018 Torch Award winner, Slow Clap is qualified to enter the 2018 International Torch Awards for Ethics. Presented annually since 1996, these awards honor companies that demonstrate best practices in leadership character and high standards of organizational ethics that benefit their customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and communities.

"Torch Awards Winners demonstrate the highest ethical standards of trust toward customers, employees and the communities in which they do business," said Lori Wilson, President and CEO of Golden Gate BBB. "We are proud to recognize Slow Clap Productions and grateful to them for their part in creating a marketplace where people can trust each other."
