Australia Growth Underlines eBay Potential, says PowerSeller CollegeTech" title="">

( April 13, 2012 -- eBay sellers in Australia enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2011, with reports describing a 45% rise in sales for the country's 2,000 largest sellers, something that PowerSeller CollegeTech believe is yet more evidence of the promising long term prospects for the world's largest marketplace.

PowerSeller CollegeTech, a learning school for eBay sellers, said that the news from Australia shows that eBay underlines the fact that as the global economy continues its sluggish performance, more and more buyers are looking to do their shopping online when a wider variety of items and lower prices can consistently be found.

Earlier, Australian news media reported that a survey carried out by eBay Australia at the end of last year showed that more than 150 million Australian sellers reported sales exceeding $1 million over the last 12 months, to January 2012. This represents an increase of 31% from the previous year.

Deborah Starkey, eBay Australia's vice president, said that this could be put down to those retailers who sold through the platform being among the first to recognize the opportunities that online retail provide, and thus had managed to significantly outperform other sellers.

According to Ms Sharkey, online business in the country is booming, and the rapid pace of growth among Australia's top eBay sellers continues to accelerate faster. She also revealed that more buyers in Australia were accessing eBay via mobile devices than any other country in the world.

Sharkey predicted that "in 2012, mobile commerce and e-commerce will be the largest driving factor in retail growth."

Remarking on the news, PowerSeller CollegeTech CEO Robert Butner said that "Clearly the news from Australia backs up what we have stated all along - that there are few better avenues for retailers looking to expand into new markets right now. The reduced overheads of operating an online store through the world's most visible marketplace ensure that eBay is the most profitable option for all small and mid-sized retailers in the present climate."" title="">!/PowerSeller100" title="">" title="">" title="">" title="">" title="">" title="">
