China continued its dominance of the dried mushroom market, supplying 88% of global exports in value terms. In 2014, China exported 106 thousand tonnes of mushrooms totaling 1,861 million USD, 11% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Viet Nam, where it supplied 34% of its total mushroom exports in value terms.

Overall, the global mushroom trade reached 2,106 million USD, with a CAGR of 24% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed steady growth, rising from 44 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 126 thousand tonnes in 2014.

In 2014, Japan (17%), Thailand (12%), Germany (11%), France (10%) and Italy (7%) were the leading destinations of dried mushroom imports, together making up 57% of global imports. The share of Thailand slightly increased (+6 percentage points), while the share of Japan illustrated negative dynamics (-6 percentage points).

Germany and the Netherlands were among the other main global suppliers of mushrooms in 2014 with a combined 4% share. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+30% per year) and the Netherlands (+25% per year). China, by virtue of this sustained growth, significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 65% in 2007 to 88% in 2014.
