Mixed open as mortgage rates climb

The markets opened mixed with the Dow losing 11 points to 18,856 as mortgage rates climbed. Nasdaq gained 10 points to 5,304.


On the upside


Shares of Diana Containerships (Nasdaq: DCIX) and Sino-Global Shipping (Nasdaq: SINO) surged again.


Rand Logistics (Nasdaq: RLOG) more than doubled as the stock finally joined the shipping sector rally.


Western Refining (NYSE: WNR) will be acquired by Tesoro (NYSE: TSO) in a stock transaction valued at approximately $6.4 billion including the assumption of debt.


On the downside


Invitae (NYSE: NVTA) priced its public offering of approximately 7.33 million common shares at the discounted price of $6.00 per share.


First quarter earnings slipped for Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) and the company forecast current quarter results below estimates.


Investors locked in profits on Euroseas (Nasdaq: ESEA).


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of 2 to 1 on the NYSE and by more than 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 gained 4 points to 2,181. Bitcoin climbed $4 to $736.
