Allianz Life Provides More Than 13,000 Volunteer Hours and $1.9 Million to the Community

Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life®) announced in its 2013 Report to the Community that it gave more than $1.9 million to the community through volunteerism, corporate grants and charitable donations. A large part of the company’s 2013 giving programs were supported by more than 900 Allianz Life employees who volunteered 13,000 hours to make a difference in the lives of others. Allianz Life will continue to support employee volunteerism, senior services and financial literacy programs in 2014.

"The passion and commitment that I see in Allianz Life employees to give back makes me proud to come to work every day,” said Allianz Life President and Chief Executive Officer Walter White. “Employees not only support our corporate-sponsored initiatives to promote financial literacy and senior services, but also determine our employee-elected charities, volunteer in the community, and donate throughout the year to many important causes.”

The 2013 Report to the Community – now available as a pdf through the company website – describes the various corporate and employee-oriented giving and community programs that Allianz Life supports. This includes the continued corporate grant support program for senior services.

Senior Services

Allianz Life supports senior services – community programs and outreach that help seniors be self-sufficient and enhance their quality of life. One of these initiatives includes the annual Driving to Donate golf tournament, ranked number 11 on the list of all 2013 metro-area charity golf tournaments in Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, April 4, 2014. The 2013 Driving to Donate tournament raised a record-setting amount, $179,000, for the Alzheimer’s Association MN-ND. Nearly 300 employees participated via the golf outing, donations, raffle ticket sales and an online auction.

Allianz Life also gave $275,000 in grants to senior services organizations including: Better Business Bureau Institute for Marketplace Ethics, Tubman and more than 15 other nonprofit groups. The company is dedicated to supporting programs that promote the independence and self-sufficiency of senior citizens around the community throughout 2014.

“I’ve volunteered for the yard clean up with Senior Community Services since 2009 and find the experience very rewarding,” said Mari Senden, Allianz Life senior administrative assistant. “Working on seniors’ homes and yards in our community allows them to live at home longer. The heartfelt expressions of thanks from the seniors we help always make me excited to go out again.”

Volunteerism

Allianz Life gives employees the chance to vote for four organizations they would like the company to support at a greater level with both volunteer hours and donations. This year, the Allianz Life Employee-Elected Charities Program gave four organizations $25,000 each based solely on employee votes. Allianz Life also offers every employee eight hours of annual paid time off (V-8 hours) to volunteer at a charitable organization of their choice. In 2013, more than 400 employees used their V-8 hours, which added up to more than 3,000 total hours, to help others in the community.

Allianz Life also encourages employees to volunteer with organizations they are most passion about by giving employee groups of five or more financial support to the organization or event they want to volunteer for. This program, called Make a Difference Volunteer Project, gives $100 per employee to the event they choose. These volunteer projects gave more than 1,000 Allianz Life employees the chance to donate a total of $143,300 to their chosen nonprofits. Allianz Life volunteerism supports services, arts, cultural diversity, education and health along with corporate priorities of senior services and financial literacy.

Financial Literacy and Scholarship Programs

Allianz Life continued its partnership with Junior Achievement and BestPrep in 2013, with both organizations receiving $100,000 and Allianz Life committing to the partnership through 2016. More than 500 Allianz Life employees volunteered for these organizations last year.

In 2013, the company also contributed $275,000 in financial literacy grants to 17 other nonprofits, including College Possible, LifeTrack Resources, Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, and People Serving People.

Allianz Life also gave $30,000 in college scholarships to students who are family members of employees through the company’s Legacy Scholarship program.
