The markets closed mixed with the Dow slipping 11 points to 16,340 over global economic concerns. Nasdaq gained 16 points to 4323.

On the upside

Chimerix (Nasdaq: CMRX) reached an agreement with the Food and Drug Administration to begin testing Brincidofovir in twenty patients.

Intrexon (NYSE: XON) appointed Dr. Kelly Huang as Senior Vice President its newly established Consumer Sector.

Shares of Telik (Nasdaq: TELK) continued rising.

On the downside


China TechFaith Wireless Communication Technology (Nasdaq: CNTF) fell to a loss for the fourth quarter.

Oppenheimer downgraded Northwest Biotherapeutics (Nasdaq: NWBO) from an Outperform rating to a Perform rating.

Investors locked in profits on Ocean Power Technologies (Nasdaq: OPTT).

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 7 to 5 on the NYSE and by nearly 5 to 4 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 edged up a fraction to 1868. Bitcoin added $3.11 or 0.49% to $633.87.
