Video causes iPhones to crash

The markets traded mixed with the Dow gaining 59 points to 19,083. Nasdaq slipped 5 points 5,380.


Apple iPhones will crash if users view a certain online video. The video is sent through an iMessage. The iPhone will lock up and freeze approximately ten seconds after watching the video. Users must reboot their phones in order to recover from the crash.


The European Commission has conditionally approved Abbott Laboratories' proposed $25 billion acquisition of St. Jude Medical. Abbott has offered to divest its electrophysiology product Vado and divest St. Jude's vessel closure device business. The Commission agreed to the offer by Abbott saying that competition concerns have been allayed.


Multiple sources have said that the European Commission was prepared to approve Microsoft's proposed $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn. Concerns had been raised when the deal was announced in June but Microsoft had recently offered concessions the Commission. Modifications to the concessions had been requested by the Commission which Microsoft has accepted.


In the broad market, declining issues barely edged out advancers by a slim margin of nearly 10 to 9 on the NYSE while advancers outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 9 to 7 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 added a point to 2,204. Bitcoin fell $3 to $741.
