Intermountain Health and Utah Department of National Resources to Host Free Youth ATV Safety Courses

"Remember, your head is your most valuable asset both on and off the ATV trails."

As the warm months roll in, the allure of outdoor adventures beckons, especially in Utah where natural wonders abound. Recognizing the need for safe exploration, Intermountain Health, in collaboration with the Utah Department of Natural Resources, is offering several free ATV safety courses for youth.

“We’re excited to partner with the DNR to hold this event,” said Angie Stewart, Intermountain Health Sanpete Valley Hospital trauma coordinator. “Crashes on ATVs and side-by-sides are one of the most common causes of serious injuries in our area. The ATV safety course will help kids learn safer riding techniques on these machines.”

“Utah youth are required now by the state to have a safety certificate before riding an ATV. Participants will leave the course with their DNR certificate and, hopefully, skills and knowledge that will help keep them out of trouble on the trails.”

The ATV safety course serves as a guide for responsible outdoor recreation. It not only educates our youth about the joys of off-roading but instills crucial safety habits to ensure their well-being while out riding.

Intermountain Health welcomes all youth ages 17 and under to attend the free courses.  Kids will learn safe driving, etiquette, and how to navigate obstacles. The courses are available at:

June 14th, Utah Fremont Indian State Park & Museum
Register at www.facebook.com/SevierHospital.

June 14th, Utah Millard County Fairgrounds Rock Crawler Track
Register at www.facebook.com/DeltaCommunityHospital or www.facebook.com/FillmoreHospital.

June 28th, Utah Black Hills – Ephraim Canyon
Register at www.facebook.com/SanpeteValleyHospital.

Participants should be aware that youth must provide their own ATV, have a parent or guardian with them, and proper riding shoes.

“The ATV Safety Course is a testament to proactive community engagement and unwavering commitment to the well-being of our youth,” said Josh Keel, Intermountain Health Sevier Valley Hospital Trauma Coordinator. “As the wheels of the ATV season turn, let’s enjoy our amazing outdoors safely and respectfully. Wearing a helmet isn’t just a safety precaution, it’s a commitment to safeguarding your future adventures and preserving the thrill of outdoor exploration. Remember, your head is your most valuable asset both on and off the ATV trails.”
