Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) President Tom Schatz issued the following statement in support of the executive order streamlining the environmental review and permitting process for federal infrastructure projects that was signed by President Donald Trump on August 15, 2017:
“Cutting red tape is essential to curtail government waste and President Trump’s executive order will establish a more streamlined infrastructure permitting system.
“The current system takes more than seven years to complete, which costs taxpayers $3.7 trillion. President Trump’s order ensures that the process will take no longer than two years by consolidating the decision-making to one agency and tracking the cost of the process itself, thereby dramatically reducing the burden on taxpayers.
“The executive order also rejects the false choice between government efficiency and environmental safety, proving that taxpayers and the planet can be protected at the same time.
“President Trump has rightly made reforming the federal bureaucracy a top priority, and CAGW supports his business-like approach to the cause of eliminating government waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement.”
Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation's largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
