Pamper Me Network teams up Vacation 4 A Cause and a consortium of small businesses to help not-for-profits secure the financing they need to fund projects. STARS animal rescue is the latest not-for-profit organization to join the movement. Flower Mound, TX ( September 29, 2014) – Formed nearly twenty years ago, STARS is as an all-breed, all-volunteer animal rescue organization that rescues mixed breed dogs and cats passed over in the shelters by the Breed specific groups. They focus their efforts on assisting death row dogs that are 25 pounds and under. Their side-network Phoenix Fund is used to treat the animals that may have broken bones, bad eyes, parvovirus, heart-worm or any other costly medical issues.
Once STARS takes a dog into their rescue program, they track them for life. They try to ensure that the dog never ends up back in the shelter. They have taken dogs back from adopters whose situation has changed and they are no longer able to care for them properly. STARS never requires a donation or sets a fee for accepting a dog into their rescue program. They have a limited number of foster homes, so acceptance is based on need and availability of a foster home with the capability of handling a particular animal’s problem.
“The Phoenix fund is used to take care of the exceptional needs dogs that we take into the STARS system. We have treated dogs for the parvovirus, an intestinal virus that can be fatal if not aggressively treated. When a dog is in the STARS program, they are treated exactly like we would treat one of our own pets. We have spent well over $4000 treating a dog for parvo, in addition to the normal vet expenses. Our adoption fee just barely covers the basic vet treatment and grooming,” states STARS volunteer, Nick Rudolph.
