Tatiana Yvette Smith is an artist, activist, educator and doula. She began recounting her travel stories in 2007 on her blog, Black Travel Diva (www.blacktraveldiva.com). What had initially began as a way to reminisce with friends far and wide became a personal campaign to expose more black people to the love of traveling.
“Foreign travel has always been seen as an option for the young, white and rich. Social media is flooded with images of middle-aged white women traveling to brown countries in search of culture and self-reflection. Well, I want to say that Black people travel too. And for us, it’s about returning to our roots and re-sparking the culture that is inherently within us.”
Confessions of a Black Travel Diva is a fictional tale based on the true stories of Tatiana Smith. A young artist and dancer, she falls in love with a dancer who inspires her to travel to West Africa for the first time. While working at a fashion magazine, she gets in Paris Fashion Week, where she meets another lover who takes her on a roller coaster ride of emotions.
From coast to coast she searches for answers through her worldwide love affairs in exotic places. Confessions of a Black Travel Diva takes place in several cites including Paris, Dakar, Amsterdam, Bahia, and New Delhi. This is Tatiana’s first novel.
