Winston, Mableton, Douglasville, Powder Springs, GA – Respected area service company, Assured Comfort receives a lot of calls during January about problem furnaces. Georgia’s ambiguous winter weather often leaves homeowners taking their furnaces for granted during the fall months, only to realize when January rolls around that there may be problems with their heating. The company likes to provide pointers through their blog on how to troubleshoot the most common issues so that homeowners can avoid an unnecessary service call.

“We take a lot of calls from people about their furnaces this time of year,” says CEO Jerry Hall. “Some of the calls are from people who really don’t need to waste money having us come out to their home, while others have legitimate issues with the furnace.”

Cold air coming out of the furnace is one of the main reasons for calls, he explains. However, it is not always due to a dire reason. Hall wants to assure homeowners that this may not be an issue with their furnace. According to Hall, it is normal for a furnace to blow cold air right after it comes on because it has to push the cold air from the vents before the warm air can make its way through. Just like a sink will put out cool water before the hot water begins, a furnace will push out cool air before hot. If the furnace begins to blow warm air within a few minutes there is nothing to worry about.  However, if the air stays cold it is time to schedule a service call.

“There are other easy fixes that people can try when this happens,” says Hall. “It could be as simple as changing the settings on the unit from ‘On’ to ‘Auto’ or having a clogged air filter.  I recommend anyone having problems with their furnace to check out our blog articles, run their own checks, and if they are still having issues then to give us a call so we can come out and get them back up and running.”
