Weak earnings weigh down markets

The markets opened lower with the Dow slipping 10 points to 23,431 on weak earnings. Nasdaq lost 11 points to 6,587.


On the upside


Akamai Technologies (Nasdaq: AKAM) reported better than expected earnings for the third quarter as revenue rose.


NuVasive (Nasdaq: NUVA) reported higher third quarter earnings that surpassed analyst expectations and announced a $100 million stock repurchase program.


Third quarter earnings soared for TRI Pointe Group (NYSE: TPH) to beat estimates.

On the downside


Acadia Healthcare (Nasdaq: ACHC) disappointed with third quarter earnings and revenue that fell short of analyst expectations.


Third quarter earnings missed estimates for Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG).


Advanced Micro Devices (Nasdaq: AMD) warned of lower revenue in the fourth quarter.


In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of 5 to 2 on the NYSE and by 3 to 2 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 slipped 3 points to 2,566. Bitcoin climbed $59 to $5,535.
