Citrix Enhances Application Delivery Infrastructure with Acquisition of Application Load Testing Technology

Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS), the global leader in application delivery infrastructure, today announced it has acquired privately held thinGenius, Ltd of Edinburgh, Scotland. The technology acquired in this acquisition will provide a leading load-testing solution for any application delivery infrastructure that utilizes the Citrix® ICA® protocol most notably Citrix Presentation Server and Desktop Server environments. This acquisition extends the application performance visibility that Citrix EdgeSight currently offers and brings much needed functionality to the more than 180,000 companies utilizing Citrix application delivery solutions.

Citrix Application Delivery Infrastructure enables businesses to deliver any application or desktop to end-users wherever they go, with improved cost, performance, and security. As the distance grows between users and applications, application delivery is an increasingly strategic issue that requires complete line-of-sight control for each application. Desktops, web applications, and Windows applications each require a different set of technologies for optimal delivery and user experience. The addition of the companys TLoad® product bolsters Citrixs application performance management capabilities and broadens the companys ability to give IT managers full visibility into important business metrics related to the applications they are tasked with delivering.

Originally developed in 2002 specifically to enhance Citrix Presentation Server environments, the product provides customers with a powerful, automated and intuitive load testing solution. These capabilities allow businesses to determine how their Presentation Server and Desktop Server configurations will cope with high levels of user load, helping them to identify and remove performance bottlenecks before putting systems into production. Via easy to create and manage scripts that are utilized in regression testing, companies are able to quickly and intelligently eliminate risks associated with system changes ensuring users are not affected as software and hardware updates are implemented.

The technology reproduces user interactions with applications allowing IT administrators to simulate any number of users across any combination of applications to generate load on a particular server or server farm and record how the infrastructure will respond - contrasting virtual user performance with load on the server infrastructure. This data provides valuable insight into capacity and resource requirements which is used to optimize utilization of the existing environment and prevent system instability via repeatable tests for system update and regression testing. Additionally, the acquired core technology will integrate with and extend the existing EdgeSight product line, which features comprehensive production monitoring solutions, to include active monitoring capabilities that enhance application performance visibility across a broad range of Citrix application delivery environments.

Detecting changes that can jeopardize the performance and availability of applications before customers or users are affected is critical for business today, said Derek Slayton, director of product marketing, Management Systems Group, Citrix. Citrixs passive monitoring capabilities in EdgeSight combined with this newly acquired active load-testing solution will provide IT administrators with a comprehensive set of tools for identifying, prioritizing and addressing application performance problems to ensure peak operation of web and server-based applications while delivering the best possible experience to end users.
