ATLANTA, May 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is adding summer seasonal food and beverages to its onboard offerings, including the award-winning Tequila Avion, Blue Moon beer and Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
Delta will celebrate Cinco de Mayo by offering complimentary margaritas made with Tequila Avion and chips and salsa to customers on most transcontinental flights between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Los Angeles and San Francisco on May 4 and May 5. Later this month, Delta will begin offering margaritas made with Tequila Avion on flights in North America, the Caribbean and Central America throughout the summer months.
"We are working hard to provide the most enjoyable in-flight experience during the busy summer travel months," said Joanne Smith, Delta's senior vice president – In-Flight Service. "With the addition of high-quality products like Tequila Avion, our wide-ranging menus will offer something to please our customers."
Since launching in July 2010, Tequila Avion has been recognized by both consumers and industry experts alike. Its distinct flavors are achieved through an ultra-slow filtration process which creates an unusually smooth taste profile, deeming the brand not only Best Tequila, but Best White Spirit at the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Further, Tequila Avion was a key ingredient in what was crowned the World's Greatest Margarita at the 6th Annual World Margarita Championship, making this the perfect partnership.
"Avion, which means airplane in Spanish, French and other languages, appeals to the jet-set community as it not only fits their cocktail preferences, but also their lifestyle," said Tequila Avion President Jenna Fagnan. "Similarly to Delta, we are a brand that represents first-class image, without comprising quality."
Continuing Delta's commitment to offering unique products in the Latin American market, Delta will offer Mojitos on all flights between the U.S. and Latin America and the Caribbean for the summer season. Delta also recently announced a series of onboard service enhancements in the Latin American and Caribbean market, including new meals in BusinessElite inspired by South American cuisine and designed by Chef Michelle Bernstein; Chilean Chardonnay and Syrah wines selected by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson to be featured in Economy and regional desserts and soft drinks.
Additionally, Blue Moon beer served with a traditional orange slice will be available on flights within North America, the Caribbean and Central America.
These new beverage items complement for-purchase food options Delta offers customers through the EATS menu. Refreshed EATS items onboard this summer for morning flights include a Bagel Bundle that includes a New York style mini everything bagel paired with fruit, cream cheese and strawberry jam; a fruit and cheese plate and a smoked turkey and egg salad sandwich. During lunch and dinnertime flights customers can choose from a fruit and cheese plate on all flights and The Rachel sandwich with pastrami, cole slaw, sweet onions, dill pickles and Swiss cheese on marble rye bread on Westbound flights or basil pesto chicken sliders with asiago on pretzel rolls on Eastbound flights. All sandwiches are made using Boar's Head® premium meats and cheeses. Also, Delta will again offer Ben and Jerry's ice cream on North American flights where the EATS menu is available this summer. The ice cream is served in a 3.6 oz mini cup and flavors include vanilla and Cherry Garcia.
