WHERE: | National Museum of Natural History, Constitution Ave. at 10th St. NW, Washington, D.C. | |
WHAT: | The top two youth volunteers from each state and D.C. will gather for the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community state awards ceremony. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., they will hear from Prudential Financial Chairman and CEO John Strangfeld and New York Giants quarterback and 2012 Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. After dinner, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., actor and dancer Harry Shum Jr. (who plays Mike Chang on “Glee”) will speak, and each honoree will be presented with a $1,000 award. Youth volunteers from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Ireland and India will also be honored. | |
MONDAY, MAY 7, 9:30 A.M. – Honorees Promote Literacy at D.C. Elementary Schools | ||
WHERE: | Walker-Jones Education Campus, 1125 New Jersey Avenue, NW, and Garrison Elementary School, 1200 S St. NW | |
WHAT: | The State Honorees will present donated books to the school and conduct small-group reading sessions for the students. | |
MONDAY, MAY 7, 12:45 P.M. – Nation’s Top Ten Youth Volunteers Announced | ||
WHERE: | U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Hall of Flags, 1615 H Street, Washington, D.C. | |
WHAT: | U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Wendy Spencer, CEO, Corporation for National and Community Service, will help announce the nation’s top ten youth volunteers for 2012, who will be presented with personal awards of $5,000, gold medallions, crystal trophies, and $5,000 grants from The Prudential Foundation for nonprofit charitable organizations of their choice. |
