CANADA STOCKS-TSX ends lower as dip in metal prices hits resources stocks

TORONTO, Dec 20 (Reuters) - The main Canadian stock index ended lower on Thursday as a fall in gold and other metal hurts weighed on energy and mining companies and Canadian investors brushed off signs of modest progress in U.S. budget negotiations. The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index slipped 14.92 points, or 0.12 percent, to end at 12,388.71.
