Silver Spring Networks Keynotes IPv6 Conference 2014 in Singapore

In a keynote speech today at the IPv6 Conference 2014 in Singapore, Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI), a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, showcased the role IPv6 networks can play in developing the next generation of intelligent infrastructure across Southeast Asia. In his keynote, “IPv6: Smart Infrastructure for a Smarter Singapore,” Mr. Eric Dresselhuys, Executive Vice President of Global Development for Silver Spring, highlighted the opportunities for Singapore, and other economic hubs in Southeast Asia, to leverage open and secure IPv6 networks to accelerate innovation, help ensure interoperability, speed deployment times, and reduce the cost and risk of their critical infrastructure programs.

Silver Spring’s early commitment to and delivery of an IPv6 standards-based networking platform transformed the utility industry’s approach to modernizing the energy grid. Beginning in 2006, Silver Spring delivered what is believed to be the industry’s first IPv6-based smart grid networking platform. Since then, Silver Spring has networked more than 18 million homes and businesses worldwide, including deploying an IPv6 network canopy for an initial smart grid program in Singapore with SP PowerAssets Limited (SPPA), a member of the Singapore Power Group.

“Our machine-to-machine network securely connects millions of devices in some of the world’s harshest conditions and topographically diverse environments – we chose to build around IPv6 precisely because of its scalability, security, proven performance, and openness,” said Dresselhuys. “As tens of billions of people and devices are connected, IPv6 has become the networking foundation for the Internet of Things. In our view, IPv6 networks will become a critical element for vital infrastructure and citizen services that help Southeast Asian cities remain competitive on the global economic stage.”

Silver Spring’s Smart City solutions leverage an open and interoperable IPv6 networking foundation, along with control software optimized for Smart City devices, delivered via a new Network-as-a-Service offering that enables cities to quickly and easily deploy Smart City services to their citizens. Iconic cities such as Copenhagen, Miami and Paris are using Silver Spring’s IPv6-based solutions to help address the economic, environmental, health and safety, and traffic and transportation challenges they are faced with today.

The IPv6 Conference 2014 is organized by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), a government agency that helps oversee IT standards, policies, guidelines and procedures for the Singapore Government.
