Becker Professional Education Announces Recipients of 2014 Newton D. Becker Scholarships

Becker Professional Education, a global leader in professional education and a part of DeVry Education Group, today announced the recipients of its 2014 Newton D. Becker Scholarships. The program, now in its second year, awarded more than $275,000 in financial assistance, including 20 full CPA Exam Review scholarships and numerous partial scholarships.

The scholarship committee reviewed more than 725 applications before selecting the recipients. “The quality of the applicants was impressive, making the selection process extremely difficult,” said John Roselli, president of Becker Professional Education. “We continue to be inspired by these students and professionals level of dedication.”

To be considered, scholarship applicants needed to meet the requirements to sit for the CPA Exam, demonstrate financial need and fulfill a number of other criteria*, including leadership and community service — attributes that were important to Newton D. Becker.

“As a Newton D. Becker Scholarship recipient, I am one giant step closer to accomplishing my goal of becoming a CPA. I am thrilled to have the financial burden lifted and can't wait to sign up for Becker’s review course this May,” said Kiera Griffiths, a 2014 scholarship recipient. “Thank you to the scholarship board for allowing a program as important as this to continue to affect the lives of those of us with dreams we can't yet afford.”

The Newton D. Becker Scholarship program was created in honor of Becker Professional Education’s founder, who passed away in 2012. He founded the organization in 1957 and pioneered a new approach to prepare candidates for the CPA Exam, a test that Becker himself had initially struggled to pass.
