TransAct Brings Innovation and Efficiency to Food Safety Industry with Introduction of Groundbreaking Ithaca® 9800 Food Safety Terminal

Demonstrating the Company’s dedication to being the leader in food safety technology for restaurants and foodservice providers, TransAct Technologies Incorporated (Nasdaq:TACT) announced today the introduction of the Ithaca® 9800, the Company’s newest addition to its line of industry-leading food safety terminals. The Ithaca 9800 is an innovative new food safety solution that, for the first time, offers direct integration with back-of-the house restaurant management systems. With its many new advanced features and capabilities, the Ithaca 9800 food safety terminal is designed to be the one terminal that restaurants and food preparation locations including casual dining restaurants, hospitals and schools, can deploy for training, inventory management, automatic menu and preparation updates and restaurant cleanliness among other applications.

The new Ithaca 9800 food safety terminal complements TransAct’s first food safety terminal solution, the Ithaca 9700, which is primarily oriented towards restaurants, including quick serve restaurants and other locations, which feature fixed type menus. TransAct currently has distribution agreements for the Ithaca 9700 with Ecolab Inc. and DayMark Safety Systems. With standard features such as wired and wireless networking capabilities that enable seamless integration with food management systems, the Ithaca 9800 is an ideal choice for casual restaurants, schools, hospitals and hotels where menu items may change more frequently. In addition, the new Ithaca 9800 food safety terminal includes a larger screen that provides true high definition video capabilities as well as audio speakers, enabling restaurant operators to utilize the device for on-location menu and food preparation training videos for their chefs and food preparers. When connected to a restaurant back office management system, the innovative Ithaca 9800 food safety terminal can also perform inventory actions to help manage food waste and over ordering situations.

Bart C. Shuldman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TransAct Technologies, commented, “We have achieved significant progress with the Ithaca 9700 as quick service restaurant operators in particular increasingly recognize that this industry-unique solution can drive real changes and efficiencies in their back-of-house operations. Since the introduction of the Ithaca 9700 we have worked in partnership with restaurant and foodservice operators to identify additional value-added solutions that can be provided by a food safety terminal and our team has designed a device that is fully capable of interacting with existing back-office systems.

“With new features such as direct integration with a number of the industry’s restaurant back office management systems, using either wired or wireless networking with audio and video capabilities, the Ithaca 9800 clearly demonstrates TransAct’s technology leadership in the food safety marketplace as customers can improve their return on investment with a solution that reduces overall food and productivity costs. As a result, the Ithaca 9800 is a compelling new offering from TransAct that should greatly expand the overall addressable market for our food safety line worldwide and has the opportunity to become the industry standard terminal that establishments utilize in the back of the restaurant or food preparation operation.”

Ithaca 9800 Overview

The Ithaca 9800 is the food service industry’s first fully-integrated terminal that helps operators reduce food waste, improve kitchen and food prep efficiency, easily update items to be prepped for daily specials, and print “use buy” and expiration labels, all while offering direct Internet connectivity for the first time in a food safety terminal. The Ithaca 9800’s Ethernet and Wi-Fi Internet capabilities enable it to interface directly with several of the industry’s most widely used restaurant management solutions, allowing operators to more closely monitor and manage their perishable food inventory, cutting down on food waste and reducing inventory cost across the business.

Designed from the bottom up to fully automate the process of food preparation and labeling, the Ithaca 9800 features a large, easy-to-read, 9.7 inch color touch screen display, flexible two printer configuration with print widths of up to 2.2 inches and multi-language capabilities that allow for use in foodservice operations worldwide. Users can print a wide variety of information – including “use by” dates, expiration dates and/or times, ingredient lists, calorie counts, prep dates and “grab-and-go” times courtesy of an accurate internal clock – and even bar codes on any number of label types – including permanent, freezer grade, dissolvable and removable labels. The Ithaca 9800 also adds on-screen editing capabilities to its existing PC-based companion utility, further improving flexibility of use.

Intended for direct integration into the food preparation workflow, the Ithaca 9800 carries a streamlined footprint with a recessed power switch to reduce accidental contact, save physical space, and reduce susceptibility to spillage in the kitchen. It also has a modular design that eases access to the print head and internal systems for cleaning and easy label loading, and features an optional battery module to allow for device portability. Furthermore, TransAct will offer optional integration with a variety of third party food safety peripheral applications that increase functionality of the Ithaca 9800 and enable operators to streamline the total number of devices in use in their kitchens.
