Aqua Virginia Announces $6.1 Million Water and Wastewater System Improvement Program for 2014

Aqua Virginia, Inc. (Aqua) today announced that it plans to complete $6.1 million in improvements and repairs to drinking water and wastewater systems in communities throughout the state in 2014. Projects include treatment plant upgrades, wells, pipelines, tanks, filters, generators, and other infrastructure projects that are critical to delivering quality water, providing reliable service and protecting public health. Some projects are already under way.

The capital project program includes:

• $1.1 million throughout the central region
• $4.2 million throughout the eastern region
• $0.8 million throughout the western region

“Aqua is committed to maintaining and improving the water and wastewater systems that serve families and employers across the state,” said Aqua Virginia President Shannon Becker. “These improvements are critical to ensuring that we protect public health and that our customers can count on reliable service.”

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates $6.7 billion of water infrastructure needs and $6.8 billion of wastewater infrastructure needs in Virginia over the next 20 years that are vital to public health and the economy.
