Nominations Open for TexanPlus® Champions Competition

TexanPlus, a local Medicare Advantage health plan, in collaboration with the Houston Astros, is asking the community to identify individuals who are helping to better the lives of older Americans in Southeast Texas.

Nominations for TexanPlus Champions will be accepted through June 30, 2014 and can be submitted online at www.TexanPlusChampions.com. TexanPlus Champions are your neighbors, your friends, your colleagues, your parents. They are Southeast Texas residents who are an example of how one person can make a difference in the lives of older adults.

TexanPlus created TexanPlus Champions to complement its strong commitment to making a difference in the communities where its employees live and work. The Competition honors individuals who embrace older adults in helping them live a healthier and happier life, while also sharing TexanPlus’ goals of improving quality of life and maximizing access to services for seniors and people with Medicare.

“We are excited about TexanPlus Champions and the chance to recognize local residents who are touching seniors in our community,” said Erin Page, president of TexanPlus. “We want to hear stories of how our neighbors in Houston/Beaumont are impacting the lives of older adults. There are so many people making a difference in the community improving health and welfare, advancing social justice for seniors, finding solutions to local issues, and collaborating to make Southeast Texas a better place for older adults to live. We want to find these people and recognize their important contributions.”

TexanPlus is asking the public to submit stories about these everyday Champions. “Taking a few minutes to share a story could give these individuals a chance to be recognized in the community,” adds Page, “and help a local charitable organization receive a $25,000 donation to support efforts that are making a difference in the lives of older adults.”

Five TexanPlus Champions will be selected and each will be recognized during a Houston Astros pre-game ceremony in late summer. The five TexanPlus Champions will participate in an online competition where baseball fans, the community, Champions and their friends and family can vote for the individual story worthy of being named the TexanPlus Grand Champion.

The TexanPlus Champion that collects the most votes will be named the TexanPlus Grand Champion, and will throw out the first pitch at a September Houston Astros game and present a $25,000 donation to their chosen charitable organization.

Go to www.TexanPlusChampions.com to fill out an online entry form or download a printable version on the website that can be e-mailed to TexanPlusChampions@UniversalAmerican.com or faxed to TexanPlus Champions Competition at 713-481-0815. Also, the public can stop by any Nifty after Fifty® location in Houston and Beaumont to pick up a TexanPlus Champions entry form. All entries must be in by 11:59 pm Central Time, June 30, 2014.

The Competition is open to the general public living in one of the following counties: Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Hardin, Harris, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery, Orange, and Waller.
