Transparency International-USA Honors Sir James Wolfensohn and Raytheon with Integrity and Corporate Leadership Awards

Transparency International-USA (TI-USA), the international leader in anti-corruption advocacy in government, business and international development, today announced that Sir James Wolfensohn, president of the World Bank Group from 1995 to 2005, is the 2014 TI-USA Integrity Award recipient. Wolfensohn is being recognized for his career as a forceful proponent of confronting corruption to achieve poverty alleviation and sustainable economic growth. Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) is being honored with the 2014 TI-USA Corporate Leadership Award for its commitment to the fight against corruption and shaping of initiatives to promote high business standards in the U.S. and internationally.

“Sir James Wolfensohn dedicated his life to lifting up the lives of the poorest people in the poorest countries,” said Alan P. Larson, board chair of TI-USA. “Jim taught us that corruption literally takes food out of the mouths of hungry people and lifesaving medicines away from the sick and vulnerable. Jim also understands that, perhaps even more perniciously, corruption destroys trust between citizens and their governments, without which economic progress is not even possible.”

Wolfensohn is receiving the TI-USA Integrity Award for speaking out on a world stage of the necessity of confronting corruption and leading the World Bank in establishing anti-corruption as an essential element of its work. In 1996, at the Annual Meetings of the World Bank, he became the first head of an international financial institution to demand attention to the ‘cancer of corruption’. Through his focus on the importance of anti-corruption and good governance, he has brought corruption and anti-corruption reforms into the mainstream of political, economic and development discussions.

Raytheon is the recipient of the TI-USA Corporate Leadership Award for highlighting the importance of business ethics and its commitment to effective and clearly communicated anti-corruption policies. Raytheon has undertaken initiatives to support integrity in its business operations, including the creation in 2012 of an internal Corporate Anti-Corruption Sustainment Group. An original sponsoring partner in 1991 of the Ethics & Compliance Officer Association, Raytheon is a member of the Steering Committee and Working Group of the Defense Industries Initiative on Business and Ethical Conduct (DII) and serves on the steering committee of the International Forum on Business Ethical Conduct (IFBEC).
