Barnes & Noble Invites Customers to February Children’s Storytime Events Where Kids Explore Their Imaginations and Discover a Love of Reading

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced its February 2015 lineup of free Storytime events for children and families, all designed to celebrate the joy of reading. At each event, the stories may be read on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab® 4 NOOK®, a full-featured Android tablet that combines Samsung’s leading technology and NOOK’s extraordinary content and reading experience.

The month kicks off with Ready Rabbit Gets Ready! Storytime on Saturday, February 7, at 11 a.m. The featured title is Barnes & Noble’s Picture Book of the Month, the company’s choice of the most engaging and entertaining stories. In Brenna Maloney’s story, Ready Rabbit’s momma says, “Ready Rabbit! It’s time to get ready!” Ready Rabbit knows he should get up and get ready, but there are so many more interesting things to do first. Like… building spaceships, rescuing sea creatures and searching for law-breaking bad guys! Ready Rabbit Gets Ready! is for any child with an active imagination… and anyone in need of a good laugh. Fun activities will round out the event. During the Storytime, parents and guardians are encouraged to take photographs of their child with their hand-made Ready Rabbit paper doll, created as part of the event activities, and share them on their social media venues using the hashtags #ReadyRabbit and #BNStorytime.

Valentine’s Day Storytime – On Saturday, February 14, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble celebrates Valentine’s Day with the new Sesame Street friends book I Love You Just Like This! There are lots of ways to say “I love you,” and Elmo and his Sesame Street friends are ready to tell you in as many ways as they can. Participants will create Valentine’s Day cards, enjoy activities, and make Elmo and Cookie Monster finger puppets. Parents and guardians are encouraged to take pictures of their children with their Cookie Monster and Elmo finger puppets or doing the activities and post them on social media sites using the hashtag #BNStorytime.

Click Clack Peep Storytime – On Saturday, February 21, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores nationwide will host a Storytime featuring Doreen Cronin’s new book, Click Clack Peep. Farmer Brown, oh-so-sleepy, has a new, adorable—and LOUD—duckling to deal with in this addition to the award-winning Click, Clack series from the New York Times bestselling team who brought you Click, Clack, Moo and Click, Clack, Boo!

Participants will also enjoy activities and quacking with noisemakers. Parents and guardians are encouraged to take photographs of their children using their duck quacker noise makers at the Storytime and share them on their social media venues using the hashtag #BNStorytime.

Celebrate Black History Month Storytime – On Saturday, February 28, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores will celebrate Black History Month Storytime featuring I Am Rosa Parks and I Am Jackie Robinson, two books from author Brad Meltzer’s picture-book biography series with the inspiring message “we can all be heroes.” Each book in the series tells the story of an American icon and focuses on a character trait that made that role model heroic. Children will enjoy the charming illustrations by Christopher Eliopoulos, and play with special activity sheets as I Am Rosa Parks and I Am Jackie Robinson are read aloud.

Author Brad Meltzer will appear at Barnes & Noble’s Storytime taking place at 12405 N. Kendall Drive in Miami, Florida, on Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m. Mr. Meltzer will read excerpts from either I Am Rosa Parks or I Am Jackie Robinson and will sign purchased copies of the books at the event.

Illustrator Chris Eliopolous will appear at the Barnes & Noble located at 765 Route 17 South in Paramus, New Jersey, on February 28, for an 11 .am. Storytime. Mr. Eliopolous will read excerpts from either I Am Rosa Parks or I Am Jackie Robinson and sign copies of the books purchased at the event.

Attendees are encouraged to share Storytime photographs on social media venues using the hashtag #BNStorytime.

“Barnes & Noble is proud to celebrate Black History Month, and especially Rosa Parks, who helped end public bus segregation and launch the country’s Civil Rights Movement, and Jackie Robinson, who paved the way for equality in sports in America,” said Sarah DiFrancesco, Vice President, Business Development for Barnes & Noble. “It’s important for children to learn about the role they played in our history.”

From February 18 to April 6, while supplies last, customers who want to bring the fun home can buy the Duck & Goose Colors board book for only $3.99 (regularly priced at $6.99) with the purchase of any two children’s books.

Barnes & Noble Storytimes are free and open to the public. Customers should visit the Barnes & Noble Store Locator for more information about events at their local store.
