Cinedigm and Bright Educational Media Announce Plans to Launch Edutainment Network for Kids

Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM) and Bright Educational Media today announced a partnership to launch Bright, a multi-platform digital channel featuring “edutainment” for kids. Together, the companies will launch, operate, market and maintain the channel.

Bright is a linear and VOD network centered on live action, learning and education themed content. The Bright voice is designed to reach pre-school and elementary school-aged children, as well as their families. Original series are mixed with exclusive acquired content to provide a unique value proposition for the children’s television space. Content will be curated both from Cinedigm’s large film and TV episode library, as well as from outside producers. Examples of original programming that will air at launch include:

  • HOOKED ON SCIENCE, helping to explain real world science to children through the creation and execution of easy-to-do at-home experiments
  • COOK TIME WITH REMMI, a health-based cooking show hosted by 14-year old chef Remmi Smith who empowers children to make smarter eating choices
  • SPAGHETTI EDDIE, lovable characters engage children with interactive original songs and stories that teach values and age appropriate life lessons

As a brand, Bright is designed to make the emotional connection with its target audience that education and learning lead to bright minds and a bright future. The channel, which will launch later this year, will be broadly available across a wide array of consumer devices and services.

Bright was co-founded by CEO Doug Jost, founding partner of MAVTV (originally Mav’rick Entertainment Network) and former Showtime General Manager for the South-Central U.S., and Patrick Jacobs, President, who previously was VP of Sales & Marketing at MAVTV and Account Director for Showtime.

The partnership with Bright is the most recent in a string of digital channels Cinedigm has announced in the last year. Currently, the company has DOCURAMA, dedicated to documentaries; CONtv, a Comic Con-themed channel in partnership with Wizard World which launches in March and the DOVE Foundation faith and family channel launching in mid-2015.

“Launching a channel with Bright further underscores Cinedigm’s plan to create a diversified portfolio of digital networks,” said Chris McGurk, Chairman and CEO of Cinedigm. "With the OTT space continuing to grow and more networks announce plans to ‘cut the cord’ (HBO's stand-alone streaming service the most recent and most dramatic), Cinedigm believes providing over-the-top viewing options is the wave of the future. Audiences have seen the digital light, and the more unique partnerships and channels we can create, the better able Cinedigm is to serve this dramatically expanding market.”

"Our goal is to provide a safe viewing experience for young children and their families, emphasizing the currently underserved market focused on live-action, education and learning-based programming. We are thrilled to work with Cinedigm’s innovative team to bring this vision to life," said Bright’s Jost.
