PCTEL Enhances In-Building Network Testing Portfolio

These enhancements will simplify the collection of data crucial to the efficient design and operation of wireless networks. First, PCTEL has added an Ethernet port to the SeeGull IBflex scanning receiver, the company’s specialized tool for in-building wireless network testing. Second, the latest version of PCTEL’s SeeHawk Touch software allows IBflex users to collect data using select Android™-based smartphones and tablets. Both new capabilities empower users to conveniently and discreetly collect data.

Discreet data collection is particularly important in facilities such as airports and office buildings, where engineers carrying specialized equipment may cause alarm. Since its initial release, SeeHawk Touch has allowed users to conduct walk tests with select Android tablets in combination with the IBflex or other PCTEL scanning receiver. However, even a tablet may attract attention in a crowd full of smartphone users. With the latest release of SeeHawk Touch, walk test engineers can replace their tablets with smartphones. The SeeHawk Touch smartphone interface helps engineers blend into the crowd. It may also reduce user fatigue over hours of walk testing.

The IBflex’s Ethernet port enables continuous monitoring and data collection in high-traffic and high-density venues via remote monitoring. Remote monitoring is particularly valuable in high traffic areas, where undetected network performance issues can have the greatest impact. For remote monitoring, users discreetly position the IBflex scanning receiver in a cabinet, ceiling, or other location. The IBflex then provides a continuous stream of data through an Ethernet connection to a remote server. Remote monitoring with the IBflex is an efficient way to proactively identify issues in order to improve quality of service.
