The Container Store® Celebrates Sixteen Sweet Years on Fortune’s List of 100 Best Companies to Work For®

The Container Store®, the nation’s originator and leading retailer of storage and organization products, announces its #27 ranking on Fortune magazine’s annual list of 100 Best Companies to Work For®, up one spot from last year’s ranking. The announcement marks 16 consecutive years for the retailer on the employer of choice list.

“We’re so proud to have sustained our position on Fortune’s employer of choice list for the 16th year in a row,” said Kip Tindell, Chairman and CEO of The Container Store. “Our focus has always been maintaining our ‘yummy’ culture by putting our employees first in everything that we do. If we take great care of our employees by paying them better and training them more, by making them feel respected and fulfilled, they in turn will take better care of our customers, delighting them each time they shop with us.”

Fortune also recognized the retailer for offering employees 14% of the company’s total shares at the time of its IPO in 2013 and its continued focus on above average retail pay. The Container Store originated the storage and organization category of retailing when it opened its first location in Dallas in 1978. Today, the retailer’s purpose remains the same: improve the quality of its customers’ lives through the gracious gift of organization. The Container Store accomplishes this through a differentiated shopping experience offering customers innovative, time and space-saving solutions coupled with astonishing customer service. The retailer is fueled by its seven, values-based Foundation Principles that begin with a commitment to its employee-first culture but ultimately ensures it’s optimizing the relationships between and creating value for ALL of its stakeholders, including employees, vendors, customers, community and shareholders.

Fortune partners annually with Great Place to Work® to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America to identify the 100 Best Companies to Work For®. Two-thirds of a company's survey score is based on the results of the Trust Index© Employee Survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. This survey asks questions related to employees' attitudes about management's credibility, overall job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the Culture Audit©, which includes detailed questionnaires about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.
