Federal Signal Partners with Everbridge to Provide Personalized Critical Communications

Everbridge, the worldwide leader in unified critical communications, has partnered with Federal Signal Corporation (NYSE: FSS), a leader in environmental and safety solutions, to integrate emergency alerting hardware devices with automated personal messaging. The relationship enables Federal Signal to leverage Everbridge’s robust cloud-based platform as part of its SmartMsg Mass Notification Solution. Built on the Internet of Things, the combined system joins Internet-connected warning devices, including sirens, radios, panic buttons and digital signage to trigger emergency notifications, warnings, community announcements and other communications when necessary.

“This is a game-changing partnership between Everbridge and Federal Signal. Now, Federal Signal’s customers can connect audible and visual devices to the Everbridge platform to deliver real-time contextual communications during critical events,” said Jaime Ellertson, CEO of Everbridge. “We are very excited to provide customers with the ability to harness The Internet of Things to improve critical event preparedness and response.”

The integration enhances efficiency and safety by providing a single interface to control all emergency alerting tools and communications simultaneously. According to a recent report from Gartner, titled The Internet of Things Will Shape Smart Cities, “The best-case scenario is for cities with centralized emergency response and safety systems where they can connect the city infrastructure and assets and provide a data stream between the infrastructure and city’s centralized management systems.” 1

Customers can now utilize either the Federal Signal SmartMsg Platform or the Everbridge Suite interface to trigger physical devices. Examples of the integration in action include:

  • Following a hazardous chemical spill, businesses and local governments can activate emergency sirens to deliver an Everbridge-powered SmartMsg notification that alerts individuals to evacuate their nearby homes and facilities
  • Warning systems for cities, municipalities, universities, industrial and nuclear power plants can now be used to broadcast national weather service storm warnings directly from the Everbridge/Federal Signal solution

“This is a very strategic relationship with Everbridge that will provide our customers with the innovative ability to leverage a single unified communications platform to improve safety, situational awareness and connectivity,” said Matt Brady of Federal Signal. “We are excited to join forces with this global leader and offer a next-generation solution that will integrate our Internet-connected warning devices with critical communications.”
