McDonald’s Coffee Sales in Brazil Set New 7-Day Record

Arcos Dorados announced today that coffee sales at McDonald’s Brazil set a new 7-day record in early April, serving 66 million liters between April 1 and April 7, up 34% from the same period a year ago.

Arcos Dorados, the largest franchisee of McDonald’s in the world, launched a new coffee marketing strategy in January 2015 designed to drive sales at its more than 800 McDonald’s restaurants in Brazil. The program included quality 100% Rainforest certified coffee, loyalty incentives, social media marketing, and the introduction of special cups, which maintain temperature longer and ease consumption on the go.

Fall temperatures in major Brazilian cities helped drive adoption of the new thermal-resistant cups, offered in 240ml and 300ml sizes, with customers responding well to the loyalty cards tied to them.

“Customers are recognizing the improved quality of our McCafe brew, with 100% Rainforest certified grains, great loyalty promotions and innovative heat-preserving cups for easy transport,” said Daniel Arantes, Market Development Director for Arcos Dorados in Brazil.

Arcos Dorados offers McCafe coffee at all its restaurants in Brazil, including the traditional Brazilian Café com Leite (coffee with milk), as well as its famous Cappuccino.

“We are very encouraged by our growing coffee sales, particularly among younger consumers responding to our social media marketing,” said Roberto Gnypek, Vice President for Marketing in Brazil.

All McDonald’s coffee in Brazil is made from high quality grains sourced from Café do Centro, a supplier recognized for its sustainable practices, including Rainforest Alliance certification, underscoring its respect for the environment.
