USA TODAY Sports Media Group Launches BOXINGjunkie.com

Powered by renewed interest in the sport, USA TODAY Sports Media Group today launched BOXINGjunkie.com, an online news destination focused solely on providing fans with the most complete coverage from the world of boxing. Starting today, fans can expect breaking news, exclusive interviews, in-depth features, live event coverage, behind the scenes buzz and a robust line-up of video offerings, all designed to be shared via social media platforms.

“The sport of boxing is in the midst of a renaissance, and we believe we’re positioned to provide fans with the best, most relevant coverage available,” said Dave Morgan, president of USA TODAY Sports Media Group. “It’s a great time to be a fan. We’ve never had as much star power, more prime-time bouts on network television, record breaking pay-per-views and incredible content in the history of boxing. That kind of resurgence in the sport provides a vast opportunity to expand mainstream coverage and build out digital assets to satiate the appetites of boxing fans.”

The BOXINGjunkie content team includes USA TODAY Sports’ lead boxing writer Martin Rogers as well as staff writers Josh Peter and Bob Velin contributing. Correspondents will provide analysis, insider perspective, breaking news and more. Additionally, fans will enjoy a selection of features from Boxing News, a prominent boxing source in the United Kingdom run by Gannett-owned Newsquest Specialist Media. In the ramp up to the most anticipated fight of the year – Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao on May 2 from Las Vegas – the BOXINGjunkie content plan includes interviews with former boxers, fight predictions and a series of compelling features and video packages on the boxers’ rise to fame and fortune.

The new site will emulate MMAjunkie, one of the leading online destinations for fans of mixed martial arts, with 3.9 million unique visitors per month (Omniture, March 2015) and will ultimately offer statistics, boxer pages and other content and sections. Acquired by USA TODAY Sports Media Group in December 2011, MMAjunkie is also a content partner for several print, online and TV outlets. It produces the daily podcast/radio show “MMAjunkie.com Radio” on SiriusXM Sports Zone (Channel 92) with a simulcast syndicated through iTunes and UStream. The Junkie Studio at Mandalay Bay Sports Book in Las Vegas will also be used for interviews and other content curation for BOXINGjunkie.com.
