Seagate Named a Visionary in Gartner’s First-Ever Magic Quadrant for Disaster Recovery as a Service

Seagate Technology plc (NASDAQ:STX), a world leader in storage solutions, announced it has been named a Visionary in Gartner’s 2015 Magic Quadrant for Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), a first-of-its kind report for this market, published April 21, 2015.

“We believe Seagate’s visionary position validates a long-held understanding and commitment to this market. Since 2008, when we began offering the Seagate EVault Cloud Resiliency Service, we’ve led by addressing business' need to integrate cloud to support backup and recovery, while scaling to meet data growth and service guarantees (SLAs) that ensure limited downtime for organizations affected by a disaster,” said Mike Palmer, Seagate’s senior vice president and general manager of Cloud Solutions.

Seagate continues to enhance its vertically integrated software and hardware solutions while strengthening its strategic partnerships, ensuring its disaster recovery solutions are prepared to meet the emerging needs of partners and customers in managing data recovery.

Addressing DRaaS market maturity and size, Gartner explains in its April report that, “Wider adoption of DRaaS can be largely attributed to the proven viability of cloud-based solutions. Today, Gartner estimates the size of the DRaaS market to be approximately $1.3 billion, with a related compound annual growth rate of approximately 30%. By 2018, Gartner estimates that the size of the DRaaS market will exceed that of the market for more traditional subscription-based DR services.” In addressing current use of DRaaS the report points out that, “Since the beginning of 2013, however, improved DRaaS maturity, greater provider choice and lower monthly service costs have broadened the appeal of DRaaS across organizations of all sizes, dispelling the myth that the DRaaS 'sweet spot' is limited to small businesses.”

Seagate’s disaster recovery service — the Seagate EVault Cloud Resiliency Service — is highly customizable and available as a self-managed or provider-managed service. It supports customer recovery of virtual machines, bare-metal image restores and production data, all from inside a managed cloud. Seagate’s recovery testing and recovery operations are largely provider-managed, and varying service-level agreement tiers are guaranteed.
