Veteran Decries Music Industry in Light of Perceived Government Threat

By: PRLog
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sept. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- As distrust for the U.S. Government reaches an unprecedented 49 percent, according to Gallup's Sept. 9-13 Governance poll, veteran and musician Chad Holmes unloads a criticism of the political establishment and warns the dangers of public apathy and ignorance in his latest EP Chad Holmes².

"There's a rising awareness of the threat of government in this country. I want to give a voice to the informed, motivated, and independent thinkers, who aren't afraid to speak the honest truth and see solutions divorced from partisan dogma," he says.

Written in-theater, his new work is sonically a mixture of Led Zeppelin, Rage Against the Machine, and The Doors. Holmes' music leans heavily on his unique proximity to headline issues and braves a conversation largely devoid in today's music scene. "I aim to selectively challenge, offend, and applaud across the entire spectrum. Perhaps this is the new counterculture."

Stepping outside the typical artist's comfort zone of liberal left, Holmes conveys a vignette of his experiences as an American in a hostile Muslim world in "Black Umbrella," religious manipulation and political exploitation in the condescendingly regretful "You Fools," and an America enroute to collapse with the angst-fueled outburst of "Call Me."

"You can see this undercurrent of distrust and anger continuing to build regarding the actions and power of the Federal Government, but little to no reflection of it in popular music. Ya know, Nina Simone said an artist's duty is to reflect the times, and I couldn't agree more. It's just unfortunate that, generally speaking, popular music these days so infrequently leans on its powerful capability to affect society. I want to see that change."

Chad Holmes², a compilation of three singles, is now available at all popular digital music points of sale and streaming services.

ABOUT CHAD HOLMES:

Whether the snarl of his 1970s junkyard bobber or the raspy growl of his Fender, the sonic theme of Chad’s life is unapologetically gritty and irreverent. His music reflects the way he approaches his life: with a focus on authenticity, a demand for independence, and a renegade attitude bent on challenging authority. Paying homage to artists ranging from Led Zeppelin to Trent Reznor to R.L. Burnside to Beck, Chad’s music embraces a vintage sound with one arm, while the other pulls from the digital vibe.

After brief stints as a student and starving Nashville musician, Chad served the U.S. military for seven years. He began writing, recording, and producing music from a new perspective, an undertaking made possible by his discovery of the digital recording potential using portable electronics. It was here, from inside dusty trailers in the deserts of war-torn countries, that Chad unearthed and cultivated his sound.

With a nod to its military-born origins and Chad’s convictions, much of his music incorporates strong political commentary, resolute self-determinism, and rebellious inclinations. Ten years after first arriving in Nashville, one critic has coined his versatile style as “The new old-school.” Another, "Dangerous."
