Eco Expo Asia, Building & Hardware Fair Open Today in Hong Kong

Green Tech, Electric Vehicles and Sustainable Living Highlighted

HONG KONG, Oct 28, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - The 10th editions of Eco Expo Asia and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Building & Hardware Fair opened today at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE). Continuing through 31 October, the fairs gather Asia's most innovative green technologies, building innovations and industry leaders for four days of networking and deal-making.

At the opening ceremony, Chief Executive of The HKSAR Government CY Leung said: "One thing is clear. And that's this Government's commitment to green technology and the wider use of green products and services. We continue to support the environmental sector through a variety of financial incentive schemes, along with substantial investment in environmental infrastructure projects."

Eco Expo Asia

Eco Expo Asia is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, and co-organised by the Environment Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Debut pavilions from Taiwan and the State of Illinois from the United States are among a strong line-up of 320 exhibitors representing 18 countries and regions.

The diverse thematic zones highlighted at the event include Air & Water Quality, Eco-Friendly Product, Green Building & Energy Efficiency, Green Transportation, and Waste Management & Recycling. Each zone showcases key products and technologies from different sectors across the environmental protection industry in Asia.

Green vehicles show the way

The latest eco-friendly vehicles are on display at Eco Expo Asia. The e-Golf, Volkswagen's first pure electric vehicle, as well as Nissan's e-NV200, a multi-purpose electric commercial van, and LEAF models are available to test drive and test ride at the East Lobby Entrance of AWE. An electric bus manufactured by Green Dynamic Electric Vehicle Ltd in collaboration with the Hong Kong Productivity Council is also on display. The bus features a motor control system and body structure that was developed in Hong Kong. Its environmentally friendly technology allows for long-distance trips of up to 500 kilometres, while maintaining low energy consumption.

Green innovation theme days

The fair is built around four theme days: "Global Green Insights", "Cleaner Production and Waste Management", "Green Building and Energy Efficiency", and "Green Living". With each day featuring a variety of events related to the respective theme, participants have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders about all aspects of environmental sustainability. Central to these events are the seminars and forums of the Eco Asia Conference under such titles as "Green Opportunities in Guangdong", "Waste Management & Recycling" and "Green Purchasing & Consumption".

Building & Hardware Fair

Held concurrently with Eco Expo Asia at AWE, the Hong Kong International Building & Hardware Fair welcomes 160 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions. International exhibitors from Greece, Indonesia, Japan, Macau and Singapore have joined for the first time, while a large group pavilion from Huzhou (Zhejiang Province) leads a strong Chinese mainland presence.

The latest innovations from a broad range of building and hardware sectors are represented in 10 different product zones. While the Building & Decorative Hardware Zone will feature the largest number of exhibitors, the Indoor Decorative Materials Zone, Green Building Materials Zone and Building Performance and BIM Zone also feature prominently at the fair.

Building the future

A series of events will focus on the latest developments in the building and hardware sectors. Today's activities are tailored to the theme of Building Information Modelling (BIM) Day, which is a major component of the fair. The full-day programme is devoted to all aspects of BIM so as to inform professionals of the latest sector developments through exhibitor's forums, networking receptions and a dedicated BIM Conference.

Public Day goes green

Both Eco Expo Asia and the Building & Hardware Fair will be open to the public on Saturday. Green workshops on organic farming and organic herbal tea-making are among the activities organised for fairgoers to learn about environmental sustainability. A forum introducing SOPHIE - a home-grown solar powered electric vehicle - and the Create Your Own Shoes Competition Prize Presentation Ceremony 2015 will also shed new light on the environmental protection industry for the public. Students, the next generation of environmental leaders, will have the chance to exchange ideas face-to-face with Wong Kam-sing, Hong Kong's Secretary for the Environment. Forums on smart living and interior design are among the biggest attractions of the Building & Hardware Fair's Public Day.

New lighting event launched

To maximise business opportunities for participants, the World of Outdoor Lighting & Lighting Accessories is held alongside the Hong Kong International Building & Hardware Fair and Eco Expo Asia at AWE, featuring some 160 exhibitors displaying the latest products and technology in such areas as street lighting, construction, mining and high bay lighting.
