Friends For Life Awarded $100,000 from Reliant Gives

Reliant Gives, Reliant’s crowd-sourced charitable giving program, has awarded its top donation of $100,000 to Friends For Life in Houston, an animal and pet shelter. Now in its second round, the Reliant Gives program puts the power of nonprofit advocacy in the hands of the public, letting people vote from among three Texas charities nominated by the company’s employees to receive the top donation of $100,000.

“We are proud to be Houston’s only no kill, LEED-certified animal shelter, offering adoptions for animals who wouldn’t have a chance without us, along with unique community programs like an animal food bank to help people keep the pets they love,” said Salise Shuttlesworth, executive director and founder, Friends For Life. “We express our deepest gratitude to Reliant for this generous donation and are especially touched and thrilled to thank our supporters who enthusiastically voted and stayed with us through the ten day adventure!”

The two additional nonprofit award recipients are Metrocrest Services based in Dallas, which assists families, individuals and senior adults coping with crisis situations, and Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, an intensive care unit for critically ill and injured children in South Texas. The two organizations received $10,000 and $5,000 donations, respectively, based on public vote totals.

The mission of the Reliant Gives program is to support causes that are important to people in Texas communities. Through this program, Reliant employees nominate and the public at large votes for the organization of their choice. In 2016 alone, Reliant has donated more than $200,000 to deserving causes through this new initiative, with plans for a third round of the program before the end of 2016.
