The Met: Live in HD Summer Encore Series Brings Fan Favorite Operas to Cinemas Nationwide This June and July

A series of four encore performances from past Live in HD seasons comes to U.S. cinemas this summer with “The Met: Live in HD 2017 Summer Encore Series,” from Fathom Events and the Metropolitan Opera. The screenings will occur on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. local time throughout June and July. This summer’s series offers the return of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles (June 21), Verdi’s Macbeth(June 28), Verdi’s Nabucco (July 12) and Bizet’s Carmen(July 19), all captured live from the famous Met stage in New York City.

Tickets for “The Met: Live in HD 2017 Summer Encore Series” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the events in more than 300 select movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers) – Wednesday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. local time (originally transmitted live on January 16, 2016)

Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leïla, the beautiful priestess pursued by rival pearl divers competing for her affection. Tenor Matthew Polenzani and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien are her suitors, who sing the rapturous duet “Au fond du temple saint,” adored by opera fans worldwide. Director Penny Woolcock explores enduring themes of love, betrayal and vengeance in a production that vividly depicts the mystical wonder of Southeast Asia, and conductor Gianandrea Noseda breathes new life into Bizet’s lush score.

Macbeth – Wednesday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m. local time (originally transmitted live on October 11, 2014)

Star soprano Anna Netrebko delivers a searing portrayal as Lady Macbeth, the murderously cunning consort of Željko Lučić’s doomed Macbeth. Adrian Noble’s chilling production of Verdi’s tragic Shakespearean adaptation also stars Joseph Calleja as Macduff and René Pape as Banquo with Fabio Luisi conducting.

Nabucco – Wednesday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. local time (originally transmitted live on January 7, 2017)

Met Music Director James Levine conducts Verdi’s early drama of Ancient Babylon, with Plácido Domingo adding a new role to his Met repertoire as the title character. Liudmyla Monastyrska gives a tour-de-force performance as Abigaille, Nabucco’s willful daughter, while the acclaimed Met Chorus delivers a moving performance of the iconic “Va, pensiero.”

Carmen – Wednesday, July 19 at 7:00 p.m. local time (originally transmitted live on January 16, 2010)

Sir Richard Eyre’s gritty production of Bizet’s steamy melodrama returns with mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča as the ill-fated gypsy temptress. Tenor Roberto Alagna plays her desperate lover, the soldier Don José, and Teddy Tahu Rhodes is the swaggering bullfighter, Escamillo, who comes between them. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the timeless score, which features one beloved melody after another.
