BNY Mellon Wealth Management Receives Civic 50 Orange County Award

BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s Newport Beach location has been selected as a 2017 Civic 50 Orange County honoree. The Civic 50 Orange County, presented by the Orange County Business Journal in partnership with nonprofit OneOC, honors the 50 most community-minded companies in the region and provides a local standard for superior corporate citizenship. The award program showcases how honorees use their time, skills and other resources to improve the quality of life in the community where they do business.

Honored companies were selected based upon four dimensions of their community engagement programs: investment, integration, institutionalization and impact. BNY Mellon Wealth Management was recognized in particular for its dedication to sustainability. The office runs a “PrintWise” initiative to help employees understand the environmental impact of paper use and how to make smart choices when printing and copying documents. As a result of the initiative, BNY Mellon reduced copy paper purchases by a whopping 52 percent in U.S. offices in just four years. The Newport Beach office hosts sustainability themed speakers and events for its clients and partners. The firm offers a comprehensive recycling program for employees, and the office is located in a low carbon footprint building.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management employees are also active participants in the Orange County community, taking part in social cause organization and events including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fundraising walk, the Girl Scouts of Orange County, University of California Irvine Women & Wealth, Habitat for Humanity, The Jewish Federation, Make a Wish and Goodwill, among others.

“At BNY Mellon Wealth Management, we pride ourselves on our unparalleled dedication to corporate citizenship in the communities where we conduct our business,” said Shannon Kennedy, president of U.S. Markets, Southwest. “We’re thrilled that our service in the Orange County community has been recognized in this way.”

Civic 50 Orange County recipients were recognized at an awards luncheon on October 19, 2017 at the Hotel Irvine, featuring keynote speaker Matthew Emerzian, founder and CEO of Every Monday Matters. All 50 honorees were recognized at the event, and five awards were given in the following categories: small, medium and large company; emerging company; and legacy company. The Civic 50 Orange County List and Special Report will be published October 23, 2017 in the Orange County Business Journal.
