WHAT: "Along the Hudson River: Three New York Artists," a painting exhibition.

WHERE: TNC Gallery, 155 1st Avenue at 10th Street in New York City's East Village

WHEN: March 20 through April 30, 2018. Opening Reception March 20 from 5:30 till 7:30.

WHY: Hudson River School Art is this year's hot topic, following on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's current Thomas Cole exhibition, and this new exhibit in the East Village launches the subject squarely into the contemporary world. Environmental artist Tony Winters uses classical atelier techniques to portray the Hudson River and its Adirondack sources.

Tony Winters, recipient of the prestigious Hudson River Fellowship, is an environmental artist on a mission to bring rivers and mountains to the forefront of contemporary art and public awareness.

His 2016 exhibition "Desert River/City River" showcased the precarious system of rivers and canals that provides water to the city of Phoenix, using classical atelier technique to portray the contemporary landscape. Now, in a new three-artist exhibit in NYC's East Village, he brings his vision to the Hudson River and its Adirondack sources.

Asked about his artistic goals, Winters replied, "I'm making art to uplift the spirit and invite us to fall in love with these rivers, mountains, trees and wildlife – the wild things that talk to us in a language older than words."

"Along the Hudson River" is an uplifting contemporary tribute to the Hudson River School, America's first home-grown art movement. Along with Tony Winters, artists Robin Kappy and Bob Bahr round out the exhibit.

The opening reception will be held Tuesday March 20th and run through Monday April 30. The TNC Gallery is operated by the Theater for the New City in New York's East Village. The exhibition is free to the public.

Tony Winters is a prize-winning landscape artist and Hudson River Fellowship recipient. In 2016 he was Grand Prize Winner at the Sagamore Hill Plein Air Competition in New York. Classically trained, he uses traditional painting techniques to portray America's contemporary natural environment. He received his B.A. degree in Fine Arts from the University of the South, and was recipient of the John B. McCrady Award in the Fine Arts. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and trained at The Grand Central Atelier. He has exhibited his paintings nationally and been featured in online and print publications. View his website: www.tonywintersfineart.com.
