Cochrane, Alberta: May 10, 2018: To raise awareness of Mental Health month in the US (#MHM2018), and Mental Health Week in Canada (#GetLoud), Maliya Women’s Empowerment Centre’s CEO and Founder, Lori Bean, chose today to announce her plan to open a 145 acre women’s healing retreat in the Alberta Foothills, which is due to become a destination for women seeking emotional, mental and spiritual healing. Maliya is scheduled to officially open its doors April 2019.

Maliya is the brainchild of Bean, who following a severe car crash and 10 year physical and mental health recovery, discovered that the only true way to heal is through nurturing both the physical body and the soul. She went on a mission to find a facility that could offer both. “I knew it would have to be a place where I felt nurtured, supported and surrounded by other women with similar needs.” When Bean could not find such a place, she began creating Maliya, a place that women could commence their paths to complete body, mind and soul healing and transformation.

Some of the top problems facing women today can negatively affect mental health. Things such as abuse, money issues, health issues, injuries and emotional harm can lead to anxiety, depression and desperation. “These are the types of issues and problems we need to offer support and help for in our society,” said Bean. “As women, we need a safe place we can fully begin our healing journey. A place that addresses the things that can positively influence mental health such as healthy food, laughter, professional support, good rest, exercise and the healing power of nature. That is what *Maliya is all about.”

(*Maliya is intended to complement, not replace, professional medical care)

Maliya is vacationing with a healing purpose. “Surrounded by rustling trees, whistling birds and exotic wildlife, a soul can be soothed. Compliment that with fine dining and beautiful guest rooms; women may never want to leave! We feel it is the ideal combination of healing + pampering – a true mind and body escape that will provide an experience our guests will likely never forget. It’s one of those vacations that can impact and change a woman’s life, in a positive way, forever,” said Bean.

Maliya is a resort, yoga retreat, personal development centre, wellness centre, and spiritual healing retreat, all in one. It offers the support and safe haven needed to allow a woman to focus 100% on themselves and their needs, maybe for the first time in their lives.

The retreat is unique in that it will offer 1-1 or group sessions with master practitioners (experienced in health, wellness, mental health, etc.), mixed with the pampering offered through a resort. In this type of serene and supportive surroundings, women feeling lost, desperate, unwell or unfulfilled can take steps for healing. Programs are tailored to each individual’s situation and besides the sessions, can include hiking, yoga, meditation, making new friends, eating gourmet meals, and more.

In celebration of its opening announcement, Bean is inviting anyone interested in Maliya to join its Maliya Wellness Center’s e-mail list in order to be the first to know about retreat developments and exclusive offers!

The retreat will be located in the Alberta Foothills, an area filled with wildlife, hills, streams, trees and views of the stunning Rocky Mountains in the distance – a true nature lover’s paradise and an ideal environment for soul rejuvenation. It is expected that the development of the retreat will contribute to the positive economic development of the area in Alberta.

The construction is projected to start this summer, while the soft opening is envisioned for the first quarter of 2019.
