Shares of Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) surged $8.51 to $27.69 after Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) made an unsolicited offer of $44.6 billion to buy the largest Internet portal whose shares had recently fallen to a four-year low. Microsoft stock dropped $2.04 to $30.56.
