Tenet Names Gary K. Ruff General Counsel

Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) today announced that Gary K. Ruff has been named senior vice president and general counsel. Ruff, 48, who has been serving as Tenets interim general counsel since March, will be responsible for leading all of Tenets legal activities at the corporate, regional and hospital levels. He will report to Trevor Fetter, Tenets president and chief executive officer.

Having been an integral part of our Law Department for more than 16 years, Gary has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and commitment to Tenet. His knowledge of hospital operations and his legal expertise are only part of what makes him such an ideal candidate for this position, said Fetter. Our hospital management teams like and respect him very much, and he has done an outstanding job of leading our Law Department since the departure earlier this year of our previous general counsel. I have full confidence in Garys ability to lead our legal activities and oversee the function.

Prior to being named senior vice president and general counsel, Ruff served as vice president and assistant general counsel. He joined Tenet in 1992 as senior counsel of Tenet Physician Services and the companys Gulf States Region. Before joining Tenet, Ruff was a tax manager for Deloitte & Touche where he specialized in corporate reorganizations and individual tax planning.

Ruff received his masters of law degree in taxation from Georgetown University and his juris doctorate from Pepperdine. He also holds a masters degree in management from Northwestern Universitys Kellogg School of Management and a bachelors degree in accounting from Gonzaga University. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the California and Texas Bar Associations. His other affiliations include the American Health Lawyers Association.

Also today, Tenet announced that Audrey Andrews, vice president and chief compliance officer, and Clint Hailey, vice president and chief managed care officer, have been promoted to senior vice presidents of their respective functions.
