Career Planning Offered to Military Veterans

Quidlibet Strategic Ventures, a developing non-profit organization promoting entrepreneurship and providing management education to veterans of the armed forces today announces it will be offering workshops in Career Planning for Military Veterans beginning in January 2009 as part of its Ventures for Veterans programming. Businesses or organizations able to offer seminar facilities to expand community outreach efforts should contact us.

Especially designed for military veterans, these workshops will help our returning servicemen incorporate their military training and work experience into resumes and cover letters. The special emphasis of these workshops is to help former service personnel interested in entrepreneurship build a business profile with language that is easily understood by civilian audiences. They will learn to frame a work biography that describes how their special experience and expertise is applicable and valuable to the civilian marketplace. Further, they will learn to communicate what they can offer and expect to learn from new work experiences as they test their entrepreneurial skills.

The sessions will be offered to all honorably-discharged military personnel, but are designed primarily for those under 45 years of age. Ordinarily offered to the general public at $499 per session, these workshops will be free to Veterans in DuPage, Kane, and DeKalb Counties in Illinois while we seek funding to expand our services.

The workshops have been designed and are offered by Founder and Executive Director, Nina Cunningham, a strategic planning consultant whose graduate education in business and 25 years of working with professional firms have taught her a number of important things about careers and the desire and ability of military veterans to invest their careers in American enterprise. She shares these insights:

1. In a world in which work takes up so much of our lives, business planning and career planning form opposite sides of the same coin;

2. Our work should mirror our strengths and weaknesses, interests and capabilities. So our career choices matter;

3. Getting the right help in the early stages of a business career can make the difference between clarity and confusion, between success and failure.

Nina Cunningham has a Ph.D. in Philosophy and an MBA in Strategic Management from the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business.
