Released: 02/19/13 07:00 AM EST

Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRT), The BIRT Company™ – delivering more insights to more people than all BI companies combined, today announced that many federal agencies use open source BIRT to build their BI applications. In addition, an increasing number of government organizations are using BIRT-based ActuateOne® to create business analytics, data visualization and performance analytics solutions that deliver valuable insights to better serve citizens and constituents. Actuate will conduct a workshop at the event, and will demonstrate its Big Data visualization and analysis capabilities and discuss best practices at the Big Data for Defense and Government Conference on February 25-27, 2013 in Alexandria, Virginia.

Government agencies using open source BIRT and/or ActuateOne include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); Department of Labor; US Patent & Trademark Office (US PTO); Equal Employment Opportunity Corporation (EEOC); US Army, Navy and Air Force; the Department of Defense (DOD) including the Pentagon, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and several Intelligence Agencies; the Department of Homeland Security; and the Department of Energy (DOE) including several of the DOE Labs. Additionally, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) utilize ActuateOne for their mission critical needs.

Realizing the potential in Big Data, the U.S. Government has launched a long-term Big Data Initiative which will assign more than $250 million a year to its federal agencies. The goal of the initiative is to deliver better BI solutions for faster Big Data organization, visualization and analysis, to enable more effective decision making that will better serve and protect citizens. By allowing Government IT departments to transform large data sets into visual, actionable intelligence, BIRT and ActuateOne – Actuate’s BIRT-based suite of commercial products – can make key contributions to this initiative.

“As the Federal Government’s Big Data initiative develops, its IT officers will need to find ways to accelerate time to insight for government decision makers as well as providing relevant and useful information to citizens,” said Nobby Akiha, SVP of Marketing at Actuate. “By offering a robust combination of analysis and visualization capabilities, with unlimited device delivery options, ActuateOne empowers government agencies to better perform both operationally and strategically.”

ActuateOne enables government IT departments to visualize and analyze data from virtually any Big Data source of any size or complexity, either alone or in combination with other data sources. Following Web Services standards, ActuateOne deploys in any environment – on premise and in private- or public clouds – and supports web-based and mobile BI across popular platforms, while decreasing overall IT costs. Together, Actuate’s experience, proven capabilities and flexible architecture make it a clear choice for local, state and federal agencies looking to strengthen their data visualization and analysis capabilities while addressing the evolving information consumption needs of their constituencies.
