European finance ministers demanded further austerity measures in Greece before finalizing another round of loans for the beleaguered nation. The Dow rose 51 points to 12,055 while Nasdaq added 3 points to 2620.

On the upside

Harbin Electric (Nasdaq: HRBN) chairman and chief executive Tianfu Yang will pay a premium of $24 per share in cash to acquire the electric motor maker.

Dex One (NYSE: DEXO) joined the Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) AdWords Certified Partners program.

The Food and Drug Administration approved Acura Pharmaceuticals' (Nasdaq: ACUR) and Pfizer's (NYSE: PFE) pain treatment Oxecta.

On the downside

Hanmi Financial (Nasdaq: HAFC) commenced a public offering of $75 million worth of common shares.

Shares of A-Power Energy Generation (Nasdaq: APWR) continued falling after the resignation of board member Robert B. Leckie last week.

Janney Capital Markets downgraded BJ's Wholesale (NYSE: BJ) to a Neutral rating.

In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 5 to 4 on the NYSE and by more than 9 to 7 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks held steady at 781.
