Shares of wireless service providers Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S), Clearwire Corp. (Nasdaq: CLWR), MetroPCS Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCS) and Leap Wireless International Inc. (Nasdaq: LEAP) all climbed after Sprint chief executive Dan Hesse said that the industry will consolidate. Shares of Sprint rose 37 cents to close at $5.56 while Clearwire stock added 18 cents to close at $1.56. MetroPCS stock gained 56 cents to close at $11.30 while shares of Leap Wireless edged up 11 cents to close at $6.56.
